I often need images for projects and my favorite resource is Pixabay. As a backup, there are heaps of affordable stock sites, but Pixabay has come a long way in the past several years when it comes to quality and diversity of images. All their photos are uploaded by volunteer contributors and all are public domain—totally free to use. Since I use so much, I also give back with occasional uploads and so far have over 115,000 downloads. My most popular images are a wild rabbit and, of course, a fox:

Stay Home, Stay Safe orders are still in place in Washington state—while it grows disconcerting how few are inclined to follow them. Although I appreciate that the circumstances are tragic and far-reaching, I’m absolutely loving being home and isolated!!!

Besides writing up a storm, I’ve found my way onto a Archive.org. For years, I’ve checked out public domain material on there for WWI research, but now set up a real account and I’ve been plowing through fox books and historical resources.

Not only is there a wide range of titles to borrow, but there’s a text-to-speech feature that has allowed me to bound through books. (I think I’m in love.) I’m a super-slow reader, with poor retention as well, so research is a serious challenge for me. Being mildly dyslexic, much worse with numbers, doesn’t help. All my life I’ve listened to audiobooks, now discovering the pure joy of Archive’s books being read to me at a quick playback speed, I’m wishing Stay Home, Stay Safe would never end. Except for the sake of the rest of the world! I realize this is not a fun time for many people!

Wonderful stay in Belgium with friends at the end of the summer! I was in Ghent doing research for a WWI novel. Kind and gracious hosts, a stunning city, and an unforgettable stay. I can’t wait to go back. :D

I’ve had the opportunity this spring to photograph foxes in the wild for the first time in my life. It’s been a magical experience with incredible professional photographers and especially the foxes themselves.

Once the market for adult coloring books exploded several years ago, I kept waiting for books like this to appear, yet never found what I was looking for. As a lifelong artist, I finally did the line drawings and completed the book myself.

So here it is, my favorite subject to color, both then and now—wolves, foxes, coyotes, jackals, dingoes, and more in the Wild Dogs Coloring Book!
